Who Are We?

We are a non-profit organization comprised of academics, professionals, and students who have a common interest in international trade law and arbitration. The Moot Alumni Association was established in 1997 during the 3rd Willem C. Vis Moot Competition in Vienna.

The MAA organizes conferences, legal training and seminars on international trade law and arbitration, connects its members worldwide, introduces potential opportunities in the fields related to the Vis Moot to its members, provides translations of CISG cases, promotes the Vis Moot competitions and publishes the Vindobona Journal.

Conferences:

The MAA organizes conferences on the occation of the Vis Moot in Vienna and the Vis East in Hong Kong every year. Our Annual Generations in Arbitration Conference, held in both Hong Kong and Vienna, is the longest standing conference in both Vis East Hong Kong and Vis Vienna.

Training:

The MAA organizes legal training sessions worldwide on various topics in international arbitration and trade law. These training sessions are aimed at providing academics, students, and young professionals, with an opportunity to learn and improve their skills by learning from a well-established and experienced academics and/or professionals.

Opportunities:

Through its extensive network, the MAA receives information on a variety of unique opportunities in international arbitration and trade law. Stay tuned through our social media channels to receive news about those opportunities.

Social Activities:

The MAA is proud to be responsible for organizing social events connecting members with one another worldwide. In particular, the MAA is responsible for organizing the social activities for the Vis Moots in Vienna and Hong Kong, such as the Welcome Party, the Moot Bar, and the Farewell Party.

  • Ipek Ince

    Ipek has been working at Gedik & Eraksoy in their arbitration and litigation department for the past five years. She is the founder of Istanbul Very Young Arbitration Practitioners, holds a position on the board of the Young Istanbul Arbitration Week, co-organizer of ArbinBrief, and acts as the Turkey representative for the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations.

  • Navin Ahuja

    Dr. Navin G. Ahuja is the author of the book “Taming the Guerrilla in International Commercial Arbitration: Levelling the Playing Field”, endorsed by well-known academics and practitioners in the field of international arbitration.

    Having earned his doctorate focusing on guerrilla tactics in international commercial arbitration, Navin is appointed to the Presidential Panel of Arbitrators of the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR), an empanelled arbitrator with the Hainan International Arbitration Court (HIAC), and is an accredited tribunal secretary at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC).

    He is an editorial board member of the International Arbitration Law Review and has delivered several guest lectures and contributed to multiple publications. These include international arbitration and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).

    Navin has coached teams for the Vis Moot achieving incredible success.

    As an accredited general mediator, he has tutored participants aspiring to become accredited mediators.

    After amassing nearly two decades of experience in the international sale of goods and manufacturing sector, he successfully achieved his goals before transitioning into a career in law.

  • Dr. Christian Johannes Wahnschaffe

    Dr. Christian Johannes Wahnschaffe is a law clerk at the Higher Regional Court of Hamburg, Germany. His clerkship includes stages at Hanefeld and the Permanent Court of Arbitration. After graduating in 2018, he served as Director of the Karina und Erich Schumann Centre for Advanced International Legal Studies at the University of Münster, Germany. In 2023, he obtained his doctorate in law with a thesis on institutional arbitration at the University of Münster, Germany. His published research focuses on international sales law and contract law as well as commercial and investment arbitration. He acts as Editorial Reviewer for the Vindobona Journal of International Commercial Law and Arbitration. Before serving as Vice President of the Executive Board, he was Compliance Officer and Regional Representative of the Moot Alumni Association.

  • Evanthia Kasiora

    Evanthia is an Associate in the international arbitration practice of White & Case in Paris. She holds an LLB and LLM in Civil Procedural Law from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an LLM in International Business Law from the London School of Economics. Prior to relocating to Paris, Evanthia trained and worked in litigation and arbitration in Greece and the UK. She is qualified in Greece and registered as an EU lawyer with the Paris Bar.

    Evanthia participated in the Vis Moot in 2017-2018 and has since been actively involved as a coach and arbitrator. Prior to joining the MAA Executive Board, she was the Co-Chair of the MAA’s Mentor-Mentee Programme.

  • Peter Riznik

    Peter is an arbitrator in independent practice based in Vienna, Austria. With extensive experience serving as arbitrator, tribunal secretary, and counsel, Peter has participated in commercial and investment arbitrations conducted under the rules of the ICC, LCIA, VIAC, SCC, Ljubljana Arbitration Centre, Finnish Arbitration Institute, and the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules.

    In the past, Peter was active in private practice, as a full-time tribunal secretary, in an arbitral institution as well as in UN-organizations, including on international commercial law and the law of outer space. He is one of the founders and a board member of ArbCEE, the Arbitration Association of Central and Eastern Europe, a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR and its task force on combating corruption. He is also active in academia and regularly lectures on arbitration and CISG. As a Slovenian national, he has particular expertise in the Central-European and Central-Eastern European markets.

  • Sherlin Tung

    Sherlin was previously President of the MAA and is currently a Vice President of the MAA for transitional purposes. She is also the Director, CEO of the Vis East Moot.

    Sherlin is a Partner in the International Arbitration & Litigation Practice at Withersworldwide and based in Hong Kong. With over a dozen years of experience, Sherlin specializes in cross-border disputes, international commercial arbitration, and multi-jurisdiction litigations. Sherlin speaks regularly and guest lectures on topics involving international arbitration and trade law worldwide. In addition to private counsel work, Sherlin also sits as an arbitrator in international arbitration matters.

    During law school, Sherlin competed in the 16th Vis Moot in Vienna and she has been actively involved with the Vis Moots since.

  • Anne Wang

    Anne Wang is an Australian qualified lawyer. She has worked in Sydney, Hong Kong and London, and has experience in international arbitration as counsel, tribunal secretary and at an arbitral institution. She is a graduate of the University of New South Wales and the University of Oxford. While undertaking an LLB exchange at Stockholm University, she participated in the 27th Vis Moot and has subsequently participated in the moot as an arbitrator. Prior to joining the MAA Executive Board, Anne was Co-Chair of the Mentor-Mentee Team.
