Submissions Guidelines

General Information

The Vindobona Journal of International Commercial Law and Arbitration (VJ) seeks to publish innovative, original scholarship that makes a significant contribution to the fields of international commercial law and arbitration. The VJ welcomes articles from academics, practitioners, and students of private or public international law, as well as other related disciplines. The VJ also invites submissions on recent developments, case notes and book reviews.

Timing

We accept submissions on a rolling basis. Nonetheless, to be considered for the September issue, articles should be submitted by the end of June; to be considered for the March issue, it is best to submit articles by early December, but not later than 15 December.

Contributions are considered in the order received so it is important you contact us as soon as possible, even to simply express an interest. Enquiries on submissions should be directed to the Senior Editor-in-Chief or Editor-in-Chief of the Journal (see here for e-mail addresses).

Requirements

Generally, submissions must not exceed 10,000 words for articles and 4,000 words for case commentaries, including footnotes; we recommend not more than 6,000 to 8,000 words for articles and 3,000 words for case commentaries.

All manuscripts should be submitted in English (British spelling) with both text and footnotes typed and double-spaced. Footnotes and text must conform to the journals own set of Style Guidelines, and authors should be prepared to supply any cited sources upon request. It is particularly important for authors to ensure the accuracy and completeness of any footnotes or references cited in any text submitted for publication. We encourage you to make use of our Microsoft Word template (below) for the Vindobona Journal.

In addition to the manuscript, authors must include an abstract of not more than 150 words and their resume or CV. Authors are advised that this abstract may be printed in the Journal and published on the Vindobona Journal website. Authors also must ensure that their submissions include a direct e-mail address and phone number at which they can be reached throughout the review period.

  2. subject to an alternative agreement being entered into between you and the MAA, you are granting the MAA a world-wide, irrevocable, exclusive licence to reproduce and publish your article in the VJ (hard copy print and online form).

All manuscripts submitted become the property of the VJ and will not be returned to the author.

The Selection Process

A Submissions Committee composed of both LL.M. and PhD candidates and graduates reviews articles once they are received. The VJ’s Senior Editor-in-Chief and Editor-in-Chief make final decisions regarding publication. The VJ’s Board of Advisers typically are consulted on the evaluation of articles. Once an article has been selected, the Senior Editor-in-Chief or Editor-in-Chief will contact the author with a contract and further information on the publication process. The VJ editorial process is a rigorous one, and authors should expect to work closely with Journal staff on substantial substantive and technical revisions prior to the article’s final publication.
